when you die

When I die—or when a part of me dies to make way for a new version of myself—this song always seems to play, either in my head or by chance. I have my own way of interpreting the lyrics:

"You die

And words don't do anything

It's permanently night

And I won't feel anything

We'll all be laughing with you when you die."

To me, these lyrics represent the different versions of myself—past, present, and future—singing to me. When I die, an old version of me fades away. It’s permanently night because there’s no going back to how things used to be. They all laugh, but it’s a warm, welcoming laugh, as if to say, “Welcome, now we all blend into one.”
